Mission Statement

De Novo Dance is a performance collective that combines dance, theater, music, and technology to create transformative, interactive performances. Drawing inspiration from belly dance, butoh, and sonic experimentation, we create original works that engage both performers and audiences in meaningful dialogue.

By collaborating with non-performers, incorporating documentary-style elements, and offering outreach opportunities, we blur the lines between performer and spectator. We aim to shift perception, give pause to our hypersonic lives, and offer space for genuine exchange.

De Novo Dance has partnered with HANAC (www.hanac.org), one of New York City’s largest and most successful social service organizations. We are proud to have collaborated with seniors from the HANAC Harmony Innovative Senior Center in Astoria, Queens.

De Novo Dance’s work has been made possible with support from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the Department for the Aging, and the Queens Council on the Arts.
