shut.eye
a performance symposium on sleep, dreams, and consciousness Inspired by sleep, dreams, and the subconscious, De Novo Dance’s shut.eye creates an immersive, multi-media “dreamscape” through movement, music, and interactive technologies. Accompanied by live and electroacoustic music, the performance features De Novo’s extended roster of dancers, musicians, and sleep experts. Combining experimental belly dance, butoh, performance art, and musical robots, which allow the audience to manipulate the sonic environment, shut.eye creates surreal interpretations of sleep experiences. Performances April 1-3, 2016 at The Secret Theatre in Long Island City, NY Duration 90 mins. (roughly the time of a complete sleep cycle) With: Felipe Bastos, Jens Boutrup, Debbie Despina Cartsos, Baptiste Denient, Erin Holmes, Aurie Hsu, Lauren Jeanette, Vincent Katz, Steven Kemper, Bob Lyness, Lauren Marie Robbiani, Darius Stone, Eugenia Tzirtzilaki, Estefania Vaz Ferreira, Ian Wen, Irina Wen, and Jayoung Yoon. And artists from the HANAC Harmony Innovative Senior Center in Astoria, Queens: Steven George, Alice Jaworsky, Selenia Martinez, Elaine Panson, and Maria Pedemonte shut.eye was made possible in part by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
